Awards/Grants

  • Direct Grant of 40.000HKD titled Court-annexed mediation in Hong Kong: A workable solution ? The research findings have been presented at three conferences, two in Hong Kong and one in Australia.
  • Teaching Development Grant, awarded by the Senate Committee on Teaching and Learning Hong Kong of 450.000 HKD as a Co-Investigator, where my role was to develop a Mediation Institute focusing on teaching and resources by establishing the Mediation Institute’s Collection, which now includes over 300 books and multimedia material on Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR), mainly on mediation. The Mediation Institute has been launched in December 2009. This project also resulted in an Annotated Bibliography on ADR, which has been published in February 2011. As the founding Director of the Mediation Institute, I have been invited to a number of functions, conferences and seminars to not only represent the Institute but also to share my learned perspective on mediation in Hong Kong and PRC, such as Submissions to the Working Group on Mediation, Department of Justice of Hong Kong (SAR), April 2010, based on the Consultation Paper of February 2010; Submissions to the Law Society of Hong Kong,  Accreditation Standards of Mediation Training Course, April 2010, based on the Consultation Paper of January 2009. In terms of teaching, one of the major successful projects of the Institute was the request by the Hong Kong Bar Association to develop and conduct a mediation course for the Barristers three times per year, which was based on a highly successful pilot project in November 2010.
  • Teaching Development Grant, awarded by the Senate Committee on Teaching and Learning Hong Kong of 300.000 HKD, this has been completed in October 2011. This project is titled Mediation: Effective Teaching and Learning through demonstration videos for and with students and professionals based on Hong Kong cases. The outcome was produced in a book which is made of three parts: Part 1 deals with an overview of mediation, Part 2 illustrates a mediation process of an international commercial dispute, Part 3 contains a mediation process of a family dispute. Part 2 and 3 has be filmed in form of a case study and each Part, 2 and 3, consists of 3 DVDs, thus intotal 6 DVDs.
